The house my husband and I bought did not come with HVAC equipment.
The previous equipment must have died, been removed and then before the homeowner could sell his house, he died.
I got quite a deal on the home because of this. However, not having HVAC was a bit daunting. I knew I couldn’t go forever without heating and cooling. In the wintertime no heating meant that the pipes could freeze, the water would expand inside them and cause the pipes to burst. In the summer no AC means the humidity would create condensation on my walls, floors and corners. I then would have mold growth, wood damage and bugs. Choosing the perfect heating and air system wasn’t easy though. I looked online at a HVAC company’s website. They had so many different systems to choose from. Did I want ductless or to connect to existing ductwork? Did I want some type of furnace or fireplace? There are mini splits and heat pumps that are more expensive but said to be more efficient. There are boiler systems and heated floors that have many capabilities except they only provide heating. I ended up just talking to my local HVAC technician and asking for advice. We walked through my house and he determined what I physically could have and found out what I needed. Did I want zone control? Did I mainly want heating? How important is powerful AC? After all the questions were answered, the HVAC professional found the perfect solution for me. I am happy with the end result.
