So much for crossing the retirement line.
I just wish I hadn’t had to spend a year dealing with online meetings and working from home before they did this.
With the advent of our company welcoming back everyone to our corporate offices after a year away due to the pandemic, I got the news. Actually, I thought I was being allowed back early to get a jump on prioritizing our work with everyone back. Instead, I was terminated. And I didn’t even have a chance for one last gaze from my perfectly HVAC office and that awesome view. It was a gut punch for sure. And I didn’t see it coming at all. They said my position with the company was redundant, shook my hand and gave me my severance. Walk a kick in the teeth. The day it happened, I just went home and sat in the air conditioning holding the box with my personal items from the office. My wife found me there is sort of a blur. But that was nearly a month ago. And I’m transitioning to another role. It’s been a sort of dream to go out on my own as a consultant so now there is nothing standing in my way. I even made the decision to create a permanent home office. The HVAC company pitched in to help as well. As a surprise from my wife, she had an HVAC technician come out and install a ductless heat pump in my home office. Last year, during the pandemic, that was a problem for me because I was so accustomed to working in an office that had its own thermostat.
