Many years ago, my family and I would take vacations to a house in the mountains where it snowed and got very cold. We would spend Christmas there and have a lot of fun with the family. I always remember there being a fire burning in the wood burning fireplace. We always had a lot of fun on these vacations. We would spend the days outside in the snow skiing, snowboarding or sledding. When the sun went down we would all gather around the wood-burning fireplace for warmth. In many instances, we would keep the wood burning fire going all night and never turn on the heating system. One night we did not do that and we did turn on the heating system and it was not working properly. I remember the house being very very cold and my dad being very concerned that we were going to freeze. Unfortunately there was no one in the area to fix the heating system in the rental house that year. We were fine with the wood-burning fireplace as our main source of heat, but it would have been nice to have a heating system that worked in the rental. Now that I’m an adult and I know how it is to be in a rental without a heating system, I always make sure that it’s in good working order before I bring my family to a place that is cold. A properly working heating system is important in many cases, especially in very cold climates.
