The contractor thought he could overcharge me for the job

My mom and dad wanted to have some work done in their house, but I was out of town on a six-month job. I wasn’t going to be home in time to do the work, so I told my mom and dad to call a contractor. My mom and dad needed to update the HVAC unit in their house and I normally perform that work. Since I wasn’t home at the time when the system broke down, my mom and dad didn’t have too many choices. They called an HVAC contractor in the area and got a quote for the services. My mom and dad called me to find out if the quote was a good estimate or if they should call a few other places. I told my mom and dad that it was extremely high and I requested the name of the contractor. The next morning, I decided to call the contractor on my own and I requested an estimate for the exact work that my mom and dad needed done. The HVAC contractor quoted me an outrageous number as well, so I politely asked the guy to break down the numbers. He tried to overcharge me for labor and the parts, but I quickly told the guy that I knew he was charging too much for the service. I told my mom and dad not to use that specific contractor, and I gave them the name of a guy that I knew that would help them on the weekend. I knew my buddy would help for little or no money.
