The next time we have to call, we get a new HVAC system.

Over the last year, we had to have the HVAC company come to the house on four different occasions, and this doesn’t count their coming to do the servicing. I knew we had some problems with both the furnace and the air conditioner. The only thing that has saved us from going into debt with the repairs, has been the maintenance and repair plan we purchased last year. Because of the maintenance and repair plan, we have only needed to pay for the parts needed to repair the furnace and air conditioning unit. The last time we called, we knew it was the end of our maintenance and repair plan agreement. It ran out two days after our last repair. I told my husband that the next time we called for any reason, we were going to get a new HVAC system. He wasn’t happy with my uncompromising decision, but he didn’t say no either. I wasn’t surprised when, two weeks later, our air conditioning unit quit working. My husband didn’t say a word, but he handed me my cellphone to make the phone call. His only request was to be a part of the decision on which air conditioner and furnace we were going to be chosen. His favorite saying was, ‘in for a penny, in for a pound’, and he didn’t miss the beat. He told me that since we were going all in, he also wanted them to check the ductwork, and see if we couldn’t replace the old metal ductwork with flex pipe. He was tired of hitting his head when he was in the basement.
